Khao Lak Lamru national park also spelled wrongly Lam Ru or Khao Lak-Lam Ru, is the closest national park from Khao Lak.
Khao Lak area is surrounded by mountain and tropical evergreen forest and waterfalls, parts of the area is protect and called Khao Lak Lamru National Park.
The national park covers 4 different districts with a total surface of 125 square km.
The shore part of the park was damage by the Tsunami of 2004, now completely regrown there is no trace left.
The highest mountain of the park culminate at 1,077 m, 2 main rivers cross the area, Phang-Nga river and Takuapa river, along these rivers a large ecosystem of mangrove attract animal and marine life.
The most common visited part of Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park, is the cliff side just 3 km south of Khao Lak.
If you are in Khao Lak:
Drive south direction Phuket, just after the police station up the hill you will find the entrance of the national park. There is 2 entrances, the first one is if you want to go to the restaurant or do the 3 km trekking (bring some shoes), the trek is a very small path, not recommend if you have kids.
Very nice trekking on the hedge of the forest with a couple of nice view points. The end of the trail arrive at a nice small bay with a quiet beach, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. You can go up with the second trail to the road and back on the road to the police station.
The second entrance is more for family, with a large trail going down to the beach.
Easy access, you can spend the day there, there is a little stand who sells water and drinks right on the beach.
If you are in Phuket, lamru national park is located 120 km north of Phuket. Drive north of Phuket direction Khao Lak, a few km after passing Taplamu village (near the pier), a mountain road will start and you can find the entrance of the national park on the left side of the road.
The park is great for small trekking, waterfall watching and quiet small beach.
There is a lot of waterfalls in Khao Lak area with are not part of the national park.

The evergreen forest is dense and high trees like rattans, epiphytes, on the lower part of the forest you can find giant ferns, orchids, jungle vines, mangroves.
You can find small mammals species like langurs, macaques, black squirrel and bats.
Lots of small reptiles, the Bengal monitor lizard is a common sight, small lizards laying ion the suns and sometimes small snakes and vipers. (snakes are scared of noise, so you don’t see them often).
Lots of birds like the horn-bill, mini-vet, sea eagles.
Perfect place for nature lovers who want to see butterflies and Thailand species.
Go early if you want to see somethings, animal hides during the heat of the day.
There is a nice open-air restaurant with a sea view, Thai local food served there is very tasty, and sea food is a must try. Don’t expect any European food, this is Thai style restaurant with great traditional food.
