Freediving Courses at Similan Islands
Becoming a Freediver is the best way to start your underwater adventure! We make sure you are truly comfortable with the skills and equipment you will use. Getting started is easy! Sign up for a Freediving Level 1 program or get your feet wet with the Freediving Basic program.
Training is designed so that you can learn the academics at your own pace when it is convenient for you. We will support you with colored manuals and review questions to make sure you retain your training. For your pool and open water training, your instructor will personally fit you with your freediving equipment. You will get enough practice time to adapt yourself to the underwater environment before you move to the open water. Once you have completed your initial training you will be a certified Freediver. certification is recognized world wide so your diving experiences will be limitless.
Freediving Course Level 1
The introduction to the purest form of diving-Freediving! You will learn proper breathing techniques for the freedive. You will familiarize yourself with the diaphragm and yogic breathing necessary to take on dives on a single breath. You will take a deep breath like never before. In the level 1 Freediving course you acquire the proper skills and knowledge to participate in Freediving to depths of 20 meters (~66 ft.) in the most relaxed and safest way possible. You will develop the skills necessary to train your body to be more efficient with breath holding. You will gain better respiration and muscle flexibility and possibly discover your body and mind in a new way. This is a 2 day course and may impress upon you the true nature of freediving. We will enter the sea and train on the freediving line where you will prepare for diving on a single breath. We will learn the skills of diving preparation by in-the-sea breathhold hangs and crawling down the line (Free Immersion )to realize our Mammalian Dive Reflex. You will then be doing real (Constant Weight) dives under supervision to your comfortable depth level to 20 meters.
The course includes:
-2 theory sessions to understand the freediving physiology, important safety aspects and pressure related issues.
-1 breathing and dry breath holding session to learn breathing, relaxation and to experience the sensations associated with the urge to breathe.
-2 confined water sessions to teach fining technique and safety procedures and all skills that will be required during the OW session.
-2 open water sessions on the freediving line where you will learn dive preparation, hangs, free immersion and constant weight diving. Duck diving, body positioning,
streamlining, among other things will be taught with the purpose to allow the student to Freedive safely to a max. depth of 20 meters.
Prerequisites: Be 18 years of age or older (14 years with parent or guardian consent).Be able to swim at least 200m non-stops without fins.
Certification Requirements: Passing of multiple choice final exam and demonstration of a constant weight dive to at least 10meters using fins.
Freediving Course Level 2
This where where Advanced Freediving begins and likely increase your depth 50% from 20 to 30 meters by completing the Level 2 Freediving certification course. At this point you will already know your freediving basics, as discussed and tested in the Level 1 course. We will go into more detail as to freediving physiology and equalization, the Mammalian Dive Reflex and how to initiate the best response for your Freediving. You will learn the techniques and apnea breath-hold-training methods to carry you past 60 ft. (20 meters) and develop the skills necessary to freedive to depths up to 30 meters (~100 ft.) Allow 3 days for this course and you will emerge being a truly proficient freediver with amazing breath-hold capabilities–more than you thought possible! This is where deeper freediving begins, where you reach negative buoyancy and start the calm of the freedive, which is the freefall–the silent and graceful glide phase. This is where you can experience flying through the water. The freefall glide is where you also get deeper into your relaxation because it is the only part of the dive where you are conserving your oxygen the most. You will experience it here and discover the balance between body and mind, which is the first major paradox–your body conserving oxygen while your mind telling you you are getting deeper and deeper. Discover your balance and depth during this course.
level 2 course:
Level 2 Freediving will secure you with further knowledge of the mammalian diving reflex and how to initiate the best internal response for Freediving.
You will learn new advanced equalization techniques to carry you past 30 m and develop the skills necessary to go deeper.
The course includes:
-3 theory sessions to achieve a deeper understanding of the physiological changes happening to the body in a high pressure environment and how to use these changes in order to improve performance.
-1 practical session to practice stretching in order to improve physical, thoracic and abdominal flexibility in order to adapt to the high pressure environment.
-2 confined-water sessions to improve the breath holding time ability, and practice proper techniques for dynamic and dynamic without fins.
-4 open water sessions to master how to equalize using “Frenzel” technique, and to learn the advantage and skills of free-falling in order to improve relaxation, save oxygen and increase dive times and depth.
Prerequisites: To enroll in the Level 2 Freediver course, an individual must be 18 years of age or older (16 years with parent or guardian consent);
be able to swim at least 400m non-stop without fins; have completed the Level 1 Freediver course (or Equivalent) and logged a minimum of 15 Freediving Sessions (Freediver Log book).
Certification Requirements: Passing of multiple choice final exam and demonstration of a constant weight dive to at least 20 m using fins.
Freediving Course Level 3
The apex of the Freediving Program, Level 3, will take you to depths of 120 ft. (40 meters.) Freediving well below the residual volume of the lungs, this is the specialist deep diving course and will equip you with the proper knowledge to take you into the deep blue and beyond.
Freediving Program, Level 3, will take you to depths of 40 mts/ 131 ft. This course focuses on larger depths and advancing and refining your equalization techniques, as well as diving under your residual volume through FRC diving, mouth-fill for deeper dives and advanced training.
We will look at ways of improving a well developed style, or technique of freediving, and how to extend your breath-hold times. Level 3 also delves into relaxation methods, deep diving psychology and positive motivation. You will be performing “Maximum Attempt” in Static, Depth and Dynamic. Get ready for the ultimate freediving experience. Our yoga teacher will introduce you to further pre-dive stretching, and more advanced relaxation techniques.
The course includes:
6 Open water sessions (FRC diving, mouthful technique, max dive, deep rescue)
2 Pool sessions (max in dynamic and static)
3 theory classes (physiology of mouth-fill technique, FRC diving, DCS in freediving)
3 yoga classes (including relaxation, visualization, pre-dive stretching)
